Fw: Fight Cuts in Social Security & Medicare

AFSCME Retiree E-Activist Network
Tell Your U.S. Senators:
Reject All Cuts in Medicare, Medicaid & Social Security!

Congress's 12-member Super Committee – half Democrats, half Republicans -- is currently meeting behind closed doors in an attempt to reduce federal deficits by billions of dollars. If they can agree on a package of recommendations, Congress must vote "yes" or "no" – without debate, amendments or constituent input. So far, the Republicans on the committee say they will oppose all tax cuts – even for the wealthiest Americans and corporations. But big cuts in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are definitely on the table.

Potential cuts include: Permanently reducing the Social Security COLA; raising the retirement age for Social Security & Medicare; Social Security & Medicare privatization; increasing Medicare co-pays and deductibles; Medicaid cuts that would reduce benefits and eligibility for Medicaid nursing home care…and more.

To protect benefits, retirees must act NOW.  Thanksgiving is the deadline for the Super Committee to make recommendations to Congress. We're urging you to call your Senators right away and tell them to reject any plan that cuts our retirement lifelines.

LEAVE THIS MESSAGE WITH YOUR SENATORS:

"I urge you to reject any proposal to cut Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security because these cuts will hurt average Americans. Instead of risking our retirement lifelines, tell corporations and the wealthy that it's time to pay their fair share in taxes."

Call your two U.S. Senators TODAY!
