HARLEM — Gunshots broke out near an outdoor church service in Harlem as congregants were arriving to a park on Madison Avenue between East 130th and 131st Streets on Tuesday night, witnesses said.

Two men were brought to Harlem Hospital as a result of the incident, which occurred around 7 p.m., FDNY officials said. Both were expected to survive, fire officials said.

Antonio Johnson, 45, a member of the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ on East 130th Street, said one of the victims was an innocent bystander, a man in his 70s, on his way to services.

"The shots rang out just when we were getting started," said Antonio Johnson, "Everybody was shocked."

Johnson said the man's leg was grazed and he was not seriously hurt.
