You are invited to visit the studios of 2010-11 Studio Museum artists in residence Simone Leigh, Kamau Amu Patton, and Paul Mpagi Sepuya as they prepare for their upcoming summer exhibition! This is a rare opportunity to meet the artists and get an advance look at their newest work. Conceived at the formation of the Museum nearly 40 years ago, the Artists-in-Residence Program remains central to the Museum's mission.
The Artists-in-Residence Open Studios event is free and open to all. 1:00 PM Gallery Tour Stephen Burks: Man Made Collages created by Stephen Burks showing images of his work and some inspirations for Man Made. Head to the Museum's Main Gallery for an informative, participatory tour of Stephen Burks: Man Made, a unique project that furthers industrial designer Stephen Burks's ongoing exploration of the global economy of artisanal craft. The tour will have something for everyone: adults, families, and kids of all ages are welcome! 2:00 - 4:00 PM Hands On Woven Paper Lanterns Inspired by Stephen Burks: Man Made, participants will make hand-woven paper lanterns, complete with handles! Wednesday, April 13, 2011 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Lil' Studio! featuring Winter's Play Place Art and movement come together in a fun workshop with Winter's Play Place, a play program for toddlers in Harlem. Workshop will include art making, movement and story time activities! Don't miss this opportunity to learn and enjoy through the "art of play!"
